The race version of the BMW M1 was presented in 1978. The vehicle was compared to the street version, which was known at the Paris Motor Show, all according to the rules of group changed 4. The engine was modified: now equipped with 24 valves, the engine offered a capacity of 460 hp; the maximum speed of the M1 Procar was around 310 km / h. The car was used in the period from 1979 to the European Formula 1. This Procar races drove 20 M1 completely identical cars against each other, 15 vehicles were governed by private drivers and the remaining 5 by F1 - drivers. All M1 had the same spoiler and wings to improve the handling. In this way, victory and defeat were decided by driving, not by technology.
