In 1903, Harry Gibson knows an unsecured loan of £ 500 to obtain from the Royal Bank of Scotland in Bishopsgate, London. This princely sum enabled him to start a company, which at that time was called the International Card Co.
He acted from offices in Aldersgate Street, where he retailers being supplied, including card games and postcards. Now perhaps an unlikely combination, but then, every decent sized town had some office supply stores in the mall and they were the first customers.
The International Card business was sold to the 'De La Rue company "and HP Gibson & Sons Limited was established in 1919.
HP Gibson & Sons Ltd made his name with the brand "HPG" which indoor released games such as L'Attaque and Dover Patrol, which were sold in large numbers.
Unfortunately, during "the blitz" of 1940 the company, complete with all of its production equipment destroyed. After the war, the company had to be built almost from scratch.
Robert and Harry Gibson (jnr.), The sons of the founder, restored trade from Barrett Street in London's West End. The company continued to sell his own family games and hobbies, alongside products from other established names such as Waddington and Chad Valley.
It was not until the late 1980s that Gibson began production of jigsaw puzzles. Gibson originally had only six different jigsaw puzzles in their range. That has now grown to more than 250 titles, ranging from 100 to 2000 pieces. Gibson specializes in traditional scenes that are depicted in many paintings by British artists. Quality is very important and Gibson uses luxurious materials for their jigsaw puzzles. Fans will be familiar with their distinctive blue boxes.
