The schooner Albatros was built in 1840 at the shipyards of Baltimore. He had an armed deck as the ship was built for the defense of the coast of the United States. The sleek shape of the hull and the continuous deck were copied from the French frigate ships often sailed during the independence war along the US ports.
The schooner acquired in the first half of the 18th century, its final aspect and was soon deployed on both coasts. The thin and flat hull is suitable for sailing along smoothly. The ship was mainly used for traffic and commerce for deep sea fishing.
