The HMS Bounty, a merchant ship rigged as a frigate, will always be remembered for the mutiny by Fletcher Christian in 1789 during a trip to Tahiti. Christian and the rest of the mutineers forced Captain Bligh to abandon the ship in an open longboat along with 18 loyal crew members and some commissions. After a perilous journey of nearly 4,000 miles, they managed to reach the island of Timor.
