For the 2004 season, Valentino Rossi switched from Honda to Yamaha. For an annual salary - reportedly - 17 million euros (the 2002 season, he earned five million dollars) he stepped on a motorcycle which many thought this would be a chance, the Yamaha YZR M1. Rossi did this to show that the skills of the driver are more important than riding the best bike and because he liked that the atmosphere at the Honda team. He succeeded in that year indeed to again win the world title while Sete Gibernau and Max Biaggi far bijbleven in the standings. In 2005 he again became world champion in the MotoGP class on the Yamaha YZR M1. In 2006 he was 2nd in the World Championship of MotoGP Yamaha YZR M1 on.
